During scientific research of new treatments there are usually 3 test groups.

  • Active Treatment Group: Receives the actual treatment or intervention being tested.
  • No Treatment Group: Receives no intervention at all, often used to compare the natural progression of the condition without interference.
  • Control Group (Placebo): Receives a placebo, which is a treatment with no therapeutic effect, designed to mimic the active treatment so that participants and researchers are blind to the intervention.

This principle can be ported to research of computer issues.

  • Active Issue: The system or binary that is experiencing the actual issue or malfunction, allowing direct observation of the problem.
  • No-Issue: A system that receives no alteration or troubleshooting, used to understand the typical behavior or baseline condition without interference.
